Pwn2Own a security computer contest featuring the latest
OS’s of Linux- Ubuntu Distro
Windows-Vista and Osx-Leopard and load them all onto a laptop factory
edition and give hackers a chance to use a known security exploit to
win the contest and claim the laptop and a cash prize. This years
contest featured a macbook air, fujistu U810, and i believe it was
toshiba running Ubuntu but dont quote me on that. Anyways throughout it
all the hackers had 3-days to hack the os using on
1st day- Whats on the os just core files etc, faults in the actual system
2nd- OS and Applications that came bundle on the OS
3rd- 3rd Party Software
Surprisingly the Mac OSX -Leopards Macbook Air was first to fall ,
(I thought vista would) as the exploint in the 2nd day showed a bug in
safari’s web kit development and the hacker was able to gain complete
control of the laptop.
Charlie Miller was the first prize winner and 2nd to fall came vista
being exploited through a Adobe Flash bug and Ubuntu Linux , one of the
geekier os out there yet built on a very tough “Unix” Kernel wasn’t
hacked at all within the 3-days.
With this it brought a vibe through the mac community raising the
question “Can I get hacked” well no OS it perfect (in this case UBUNTU
was though lol) ,but no matter how secure the os is there will always
be a flaw but the good thing about this contest is it will deliver the
complete exploit and plan of the hack to the providers Microsoft,Apple,
Linux and let them know so they can patch it.
So overall a great contest and much was learned now whether this
means Vista is more secure than OSX , Not by a long shot as it will
determine on one the exploit and of course the hacker whos taking
control. Anyhow that’s all for this Pwn2Own Contest
GRATZ to all the winners and hope you all enjoyed the blog for more info head over to the cnet link here at

Quite interesting that the mac was the first to fail, (get hacked!) I really thought Vista would fall fast. I have heard nothing but bad about vista. After hearing/seeing things people are doing with iMacs, I REALLY want an iMac laptop for some streamming I'd like to do!
I'm just not sure if I'd be getting myself into trouble with this idea...
